We are using a carefully selected range of stone repair techniques for each particular situation including resin, mortar, half and full depth stone indent repairs to the newly exposed masonry. W H Kirkwood Ltd’s stonemasons have carefully taken down and re-built the stone pediment to correct structural movement and open stone joints have been packed with lime mortar and re-pointed with lime putty to help the stone shed water.
On the south block tapering roof, restraint straps have been installed and the lead abutment flashings have been renewed in either an open traditional skew gutter or soakers with a cover flashing to suit the location and flow direction of water. The building will also benefit from new gutters and an increased number of downpipes to deal with increased rainfall due to climate change.
Richardson & Starling have completed rot works and Smith of Derby have overhauled the clock hands and dial works and replaced ageing clock workings and motor.
