Project overview

This specialist training facility provides safe but realistic training in a broad range of emergency situations for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
Various hazard and accident scenarios can be simulated in the training park, which consists of several buildings and other structures fitted with real and artificial fires.
Search and rescue in collapsed buildings are simulated in a series of rubble-filled tunnels fitted with sacrificial panels for concrete cutting practice. An indoor climbing frame provides training for rope work rescues and includes a simulated tower crane.
A large external space is used for training in road traffic collisions and major incident decontamination exercises.
Support accommodation for the specialist facilities is provided in two buildings. One contains the front-of-house accommodation of reception, briefing, changing rooms and canteen, and the other, practical training workshops and a fire engine bay. The Occupational Health department is also accommodated on the site.
The facility serves the whole of the east of Scotland and enhances the Service’s professional image through crisp and robust design.
