Perth West was identified through the local development plan as a potential site for residential expansion. The primary purpose of this study was to support the Council plan and explore further consideration of the site for mixed use development comprising some 3000+ houses, community spaces and 25ha of employment land.
The masterplan framework design and charrette engagement process took place in spring 2015. We supported the planning team in the two charrette events, providing urban design expertise and developing the strategy for the design of the streets and a local neighbourhood centre.
A series of presentations of comparative neighbourhoods and precedents were provided. Drawings were produced during the charrette event to explain and explore the design solutions with local stakeholders and community representatives.
The completed masterplan sets out the adopted and emerging planning and design policy context, provides an overview of the site analysis and urban design principles, and provides a framework for the masterplan. The framework will define key parameters and guide further detailed master planning stages to ensure that Perth West is a place that will successfully grow and integrate with the wider Perth community.
