The Edinburgh Home Demonstrator (EHD) programme was established to develop and test a new business model for the construction of affordable homes using offsite construction methods. Based on collaborative procurement, whole-life costings, development pipeline and greater standardisation, it has the potential to transform both the productivity and performance of affordable housing, and to enable the move towards homes built to net zero standards. We were asked to look at the third pilot project in this delivery stream which encompassed a total of 13 sites and 5 regional partner council authorities.
Using a solution of standardised net zero tested house types, we worked with the partner teams to design, test and assess capacity on the various sites with an output of nearly 200 new homes spread across the sites.
Through close collaboration with engineering and client teams we delivered these sites to Stage 2 design. The next stage will see the delivery of new affordable homes using the EHD tested offsite and net zero designs.
