RAPLOCH SITE 4 – HOUSING
Location: Stirling
Client: Cruden Homes East for Raploch URC, Forth HA and Stirling Council
Programme: Current Project
This site is a continuation of the successful regeneration of the Raploch area in Stirling. The initial phase of 83 houses is on site and due for completion in 2015. The second phase of 95 units has been submitted for planning approval with anticipated site start in March 2016.
The scheme provides a mixed tenure neighbourhood of 44 units for social rent by Forth HA, 46 units for affordable rent by Stirling Council and 93 units for sale by Cruden Homes East. The design is an extension to the first new housing development (Raploch Site 5 - 215 units) which addressed Drip Road and the new Village Sq.
The Raploch Masterplan identifies this site for houses and flats with a 3 storey crescent of buildings forming a strong edge and enclosure to the proposed public park which is overlooked by Stirling Castle and connects to the Village Square. The buildings facing the park have road access and car parking from the housing ensuring a more relaxed landscape environment incorporating pedestrian paths, cycle routes and planting.
Our design proposal applies similar materials to Site 5 and creates a series of red brick towers that contrast with the simple white render of the buildings. The existing distinctive corner building to Drip road and a new flatted building to the south east form effective “bookends” to this crescent.
