LEITH URBAN DESIGN FRAMEWORK
Location: Leith, Edinburgh
Client: City of Edinburgh Council
Programme: Completed 2002
This study, commissioned by the City of Edinburgh Council, for a 450ha site, consists of two parts: a thorough analysis of the area and proposals for a future spatial framework.
The area analysis was based around routes, figure ground, heights and use analysis, landscape plan, heritage/listed buildings, historical maps and concluded in an areas of change analysis. This identified where future development pressures were most likely to occur and provided suggested timescales.
A spatial framework was then developed for the whole of Leith, incorporating strategic proposals for rail, tram, road and cycle routes and ensuring existing communities are reconnected with the waterfront and green areas. Key routes and building forms were identified.
