LADYWELL ROAD HOUSE
Location: Corstorphine, Edinburgh
Client: Private Client
Programme: Completed 2012
This project was for an extension to the rear of an existing large family villa in the Corstorphine area of the city.
The existing ground floor was reconfigured to provide a large open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The existing kitchen was altered to form a complimentary utility area. The new public space links back to the existing lounge area to the rear of the house and a snug is also formed in the original building.
The long wall to the garden is formed by large sliding glass screens that can be fully opened to remove any barrier between the inside and the outside. The transition between these two spaces is further emphasised by the creation of a deck and patio area. Circular roof lights help to bring more daylight into the extension flooding the whole space with natural light.
On the first floor the bathroom area has also been reconfigured to create a separate family bathroom and independent shower room to serve the four bedrooms on this floor.
The new extension not only gives the family considerably more living space, but creates a real heart to the home. The balance between open plan space and more private areas results in spaces that are enjoyed by all members of the family.
