FURNITURE DESIGN
The design of elements of furniture is an integral part of many architectural and interior design projects. These can range from desking systems that create space efficiency to key signature pieces such as reception desks or integrated seating units. On some projects, all the furniture can be purpose designed and on others selected pieces can be used along with standard systems or to help integrate a client’s existing furniture.
Commissioning furniture as part of an architectural project gives the opportunity to express the themes behind the client’s aspirations for the building and convey them to both staff and visitors. One example of this is a number of reception desks we have designed from recycled material, to express a project’s commitment to sustainability.
Designing successful furniture is founded on an analysis of the functions that it is required to fulfil, along with detailed knowledge of materials, British Standard guidance and ergonomics. It also involves working closely with specialist joinery and furniture manufacturing companies, to ensure that the pieces are not only attractive but robust and efficient to build.
We have designed furniture for many different clients and for many purposes, to a wide range of budgets. We have designed inexpensive fitted desking systems for start-up companies and charities. We have also designed high quality individual items, constructed of hardwood, granite and glass for corporate and institutional clients. We see this skill as offering a tangible value to our clients and recommend that it is considered as an option in many projects.
