Eastern General Housing is located on the site of the former Eastern General Hospital in the north-east of Edinburgh and is being developed in two phases. The first, for Hillcrest Housing Association, includes 155 houses and flats and the second, for 76 flats, is for Hillcrest Housing Association and Bield Housing & Care.

The existing listed Chapel is being converted into a wheelchair accessible house an d the remainder of the units are new build properties ranging from three to six storeys flats and a row of six townhouses.

Predominantly clad in facing brick, with render used for in certain locations, the properties are intended to mesh in with other recent residential developments in the area.

Many of the dwellings are designed specifically with older people in mind and provide flexible accommodation. The larger six-storey block provides lift access to all levels.

In addition to private gardens and generous communal spaces, a central public space is incorporated at the schemes heart to create a focus for the developing residential area.

This development is currently on site with the first units programmed for completion in late 2015.
