CRIGHTON PLACE PROPERTY CENTRE
Location: Leith Walk, Edinburgh
Client: Lints Property
Programme: Completed 2005
This project involved alterations to an existing ground floor and basement shop unit to form a new property centre and administration base.
During the design investigations an original Victorian shop front was discovered and revealed by removing later additions. New glazing allows views in to be maximised, while signage, lighting and paintwork integrate the existing office premises next door.
The physical height of the space was increased by removing a false ceiling and in contrast to conventional retail design, the area beside the shop front is occupied by a stair to further enhance the feeling of space and allow light to penetrate to the basement.
The scheme was developed to draw in customers and cellular elements such as meeting rooms are located towards the rear.
As with all retail environments, the interior design plays a major role in engaging potential customers. The long and narrow interior space is ideal for the display of properties and this is enhanced by a purpose designed light fitting which both lights the space and displays, with the lighting also providing interest out of operating hours.
A bespoke reception desk was created using recycled timber to promote sustainable design and to provide a personal welcome to visitors.
