CRICHTON CAMPUS WORKSHOPS
Location: Dumfries & Galloway
Client: Architecture + Design Scotland for Dumfries & Galloway Council
Programme: Completed 2012
The Crichton Estate and its surroundings host a unique mix of uses from the education, health and private sectors set within a historic landscape. It has enormous potential to lead the transformation of Dumfries in both economic and social terms. We assisted with facilitation of a series of one day Planning Workshops for a wide range of stakeholders to explore the opportunities for collaboration based on a real consensus and desire for change.
The workshops took place in March, July and October 2012, commencing with a Scenario Planning Workshop considering the wider aspects of the Campus, the second Project Opportunities workshop looked at development potential of the southern section of the Campus and the final workshop concentrated on the requirements of 15+ High School and the National Centre for Arts and the Environment. as part of Dumfries Learning Town initiative.
Discussions at the final workshop focussed on the student experience, the type of distinctive place which could be created, the opportunities for operational sharing, the key building elements, the major barriers to overcome and the additional opportunities which this shared approach could offer all partners.
We produced a written report of the events including a series of masterplan graphics and precedent image sheets.
