ALBANY STREET, EDINBURGH
Location: Edinburgh
Client: Private Client
Programme: Current project
Our clients purchased this Category-A Listed four-storey townhouse in Edinburgh’s New Town to convert it from an office into their own home.
Such buildings are rich in character and period detail but their layout is not always best suited to modern living. We have recently obtained Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for several key interventions to make it a desirable family home.
We will add a bridge to the garden from the ground floor, making a direct connection between the private outside space and the principal rooms.
We will create a large interconnected space for family life on the first floor by forming a new opening between the kitchen to the rear and the drawing room to the front.
We will install a lift for better access, and on the top floor we will replace a non-original box dormer with a pair of elegant new dormers to fill the top-floor rooms with light.
This project will return a neglected New Town townhouse to domestic use. The proposed interventions will make it a desirable family home and help to ensure that this piece of architectural heritage is preserved for future generations to enjoy.
