Penicuik Town Hall Completion

Penicuik Town Hall Completion It was great to see the scaffolding come down at our project at Penicuik Town Hall recently; the completed building was looking good in the autumn sunshine!

External enhancement works included repairing the stonework to the building and turret, removing all cement pointing and re-pointing the building with lime mortar. Repairs to the roof included replacing slates, installing new flashings where required and clearing gutters. We were able to secure the existing finial and weathervane on top of the turret; an existing feature that was in poor condition and at risk of having to be removed.

The installation of photovoltaic panels as well as a new combined heat and power system has improved the environmental impact and energy use of the building. And finally new lettering has been installed to the front elevation to recognise the original building use.

This project was part of the Penicuik Heritage Regeneration project, a Townscape Heritage (TH) and Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS), jointly funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland and Midlothian Council.
