BIM Training

Smith Scott Mullan has always invested heavily in formal training to ensure our staff are able to work as efficiently and effectively as possible in BIM software.

By the start of 2020, over 80% of our staff involved in the day to running of projects had completed a three-day classroom-based ‘Revit Architecture Essentials’ course. In addition, specific members of staff have completed focussed training courses on ‘Revit Content Creation’, ‘Revit Detailing’ and ‘Revit Site Design’.

In his role as BIM Manager, Neil Forrester has completed a number of further BIM-related training courses including ‘Revit Standards and Management’, ensuring that our Revit template and BIM procedures are comprehensive and effective, and ‘Navisworks Manage – The Complete Guide’ covering model federation and clash detection for larger collaborative projects to BIM Level 2 standard.

More recently and in particular during the lockdown period enforced by the Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the opportunity to further enhance levels of staff training. Various members of staff have utilised the on-line training library to which the practice subscribes to complete both initial ‘Revit Essentials’ courses as well as higher level courses such as ‘Dynamo Essentials’ (computational design software to support Revit processes).

A number of members of staff have also taken part in Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT) sessions through the Autodesk FLOW Programme, covering both ‘Revit Detailing’ and ‘Infraworks 360’, which is a specialist site design tool that will allow us to build accurate site analysis models and develop early stage site layout proposals and visualisations.  Finally, Peter Hackett, one of our chartered Architectural Technologists, has completed the BRE Academy’s certified ‘BIM Level 2 Essentials’ training course.

If you would like to know more about our BIM capabilities and our current work delivering to BIM Level 2 standard, please get in touch.
