Alistair Scott retired from Smith Scott Mullan Associates at the end of June 2022.
Alistair has guided the design ethos of the practice for over 25 years, he acted as a mentor to many of our current colleagues and provided unwavering loyalty and quality of service to our clients across Scotland and northern England. He made a major contribution to the regeneration of Craigmillar in Edinburgh where he has been involved since community meetings in 1993 to the recent successful completion of the Thistle Neighbourhood. He designed numerous buildings including the National Rowing Academy in Strathclyde Park, Student Housing in Dundee and George Watsons College, Sports Facilities in Edinburgh. His masterplan projects included Nevis Mountain Resort, redevelopment of the National Museum of Flight in East Lothian and a new neighbourhood to the west of Perth.
Alistair has always been game to participate in wider Practice activities such as the Buccleugh Property Challenge and also Tough Mudder events which raised funds for Macmillan Cancer.
In 2017, Alistair relinquished his role as Director and facilitated a smooth transition to the current Director team of Jamie Bateman, Rick McCluggage and Graham Acheson, who joined Eugene in running the business, since then he has assisted with project initiation and the design of specific projects.
Throughout his career, Alistair has held positions in a variety of influential organisations with interests in our built environment. These include the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland, the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, Architecture and Design Scotland and the Scottish Civic Trust. Alistair remains a Board member of Architecture and Design Scotland.
We are extremely grateful for Alistair’s major contribution to the Practice. We wish him a very relaxed and happy retirement and hope he finds the time to work on his golf and continue his passion for travel.
